4 Signs You Need AC Repair Stat!

AC repairs are much easier and cheaper to address when they are caught early. When AC problems continue on, they can leave lasting damage inside of your air conditioner. But when you know the early signs of AC problems, you can call our team for service sooner rather than later.

You can keep reading to learn about four common ways that your air conditioner communicates that something is wrong. Remember, AC problems are not always loud and obvious. Sometimes you have to pay very close attention to know when to call for air conditioning repair in Syracuse.

Unusual Sounds

You should have a pretty good idea of what types of sounds your air conditioner makes on a normal basis. If you hear anything out of the ordinary, it is important to call and schedule service. Examples include a loud screeching, scraping, or banging sound that can indicate some type of component is loose and moving around in a way that it was not intended to.

It’s also possible you hear sounds that are completely normal to hear once in a while but should never happen persistently. For example, you may hear your air conditioner click on and off during a cycle, but you should never hear persistent, repetitive clicking.

The same goes for rattling. You may hear a gentle rattling sound when your unit first turns on as ductwork expands and contracts because of temperature changes. But if the ductwork is rattling all the time, it may be loose. The only way to know for sure is by scheduling a maintenance appointment.

Bad Odors

Any unusual smells coming from your air vents should be a cause for alarm. Damp and musty odors can point to mold growth somewhere in the system. Air that smells dusty and dirty may very well be just that. You may need to have your ductwork cleaned out. A burning odor can indicate that something inside of the unit is overheating, while a sweet or chemical odor can mean that you have a refrigerant leak.

Unusual Cooling Cycles

Your air conditioner should turn on for around 10 minutes at a time to complete a cooling cycle before turning back off to rest again. If it stays on for a lot longer or turns on and off every couple of minutes, something is wrong.

Either your air conditioner is struggling to cool your home, there are airflow problems, or a safety setting is triggering your AC to turn off sooner than it should. Sometimes in these cases, your thermostat is the problem and needs to be recalibrated. Your thermostat may be signaling for your AC to turn on and off at the wrong times.

Lots of Dust

If you have a lot of dusty surfaces around your home or feel like you can’t keep up with cleaning, your HVAC system may be to blame. It may not be completely airtight, and as a result, is allowing dust and dirt inside to continue recycling. Our team can identify any problems, clean out the system, and then reseal it to give you a fresh start.
